A 18 años de los atentados sobre las Torres Gemelas en Nueva York, el deporte sigue recordando aquel fatídico episodio que cimbró, por igual, a todo el mundo.
Por ello, los diferentes equipos de la llamada Urbe de Hierro conmemoraron un aniversario de este día, ya sea con homenajes a las víctimas que dejaron los atentados, a la policía y al cuerpo de bomberos de la ciudad o realizando alguna labor social.
El New York City FC, equipo de la MLS, utilizó la bandera de Estados Unidos en sus dorsales en conmemoración al 9/11, además de conmemorar a los bomberos y policías de la ciudad.

Por otra parte, miembros del equipo de los Gigantes de Nueva York visitaron diferentes estaciones de bomberos, colocando lo siguiente en su cuenta de Twitter: "¡Estamos agradecidos por la oportunidad de aprender más sobre el arduo trabajo que hacen estos increíbles bomberos!"

Asimismo, los Mets de Nueva York, de la MLB, realizaron honores a lado de miembros de la policía de la ciudad, durante su encuentro ante los Diamantes de Arizona, mientras que empleados de los Nets de Brooklyn llevaron a cabo labor social en el Día de Servicio por el 11 de septiembre, a lo igual que los jugadores del New York Red Bull.
